History
BOLS Creme de Banana Liqueur was crafted by the Bols family who started the production of liqueurs in a small Amsterdam distillery called 't Lootsje. Lucas Bols, the grandson of the founder, was born in 1700 and became a major shareholder in the Dutch East India trading company, which granted him access to exotic herbs and spices essential for creating over 300 liqueur and spirit recipes. He was instrumental in shipping Bols liqueurs worldwide, leaving a legacy that is celebrated today. The Bols family also pioneered the distillation of the famous Dutch genever, creating a more subtle flavor profile that significantly contributed to the cocktail revolution. In Jerry Thomas's 1862 cocktail book, one in four cocktails featured genever, highlighting its popularity. In 1883, Bols began maturing genevers in French Limousin oak casks, leading to the creation of the Bols Genever Barrel Aged recipe, which was relaunched internationally in 2010, further solidifying the brand's legacy in the world of spirits.
